Never has it been more important to be a healthy weight. Statistically, people who are very overweight who have had COVID-19 have been more seriously ill and have been more likely to be admitted to hospital than people who have been in better shape. People with type 2 diabetes are also at a greater risk of serious illness and death from the virus. In a Government press release in July this year, it quotes a study that says that for people with a BMI of 35 to 40, risk of death from COVID-19 increases by 40% and with a BMI over 40 by 90%, compared to those not living with obesity. Other data found that in intensive care units, 7.9% of critically ill patients with COVID-19 had a BMI over 40 compared with 2.9% of the general population.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson had his own wake-up call when he found himself in ICU with the Coronavirus back in April and concluded that his own weight had played a significant role in the seriousness of his condition. He is now at the centre of a Downing Street effort to promote a strategy to slim the nation down.

Before re-opening after lockdown, we went further than Government guidelines and completely redesigned the gym floor into separate workout stations, separated by Perspex screens to make it COVID-19-secure. We have always had a booking system, so we completely control our numbers and, because your workout is directed by a trainer from start to finish, we also control what everyone is doing to ensure social distancing at all times. And of course, there is a stringent cleaning protocol in place.

In November, we launch Bee-Fit Online. For just £10/month and no contract, you will have access to a live daily workout, Monday to Friday, with our fantastic trainer, Alex. Using the Zoom platform, you will be able to join in with Alex, take instruction and speak to him as if you were in the gym, from the comfort of your own home.
