Bayern Munich midfielder Noël Aséko Nkili has an exciting future ahead of him. The youngster, who joined the Bayern academy in 2022 at the age of 16, appears to be on the verge of a breakthrough to the big leagues.

Aséko is currently on a season-and-a-half loan assignment at Hannover 96. In his first few months, he scarcely made a senior team appearance while featuring for H96 II in the 3. Liga — one tier up from where Bayern’s second team plays. This season, though, he has been a nailed-on starter for a side currently in fifth place in the 2. Bundesliga.

“Every footballer dreams of playing for the very best someday,” Aséko said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Of course, I’m in regular contact and discussions with the management of FC Bayern and Hannover. But I’m not thinking about that. I’m only focused on the games.”

For the 20-year-old, right now that means the remainder of this season at Hannover, and he cannot take it for granted that he will waltz into the Bayern first team after that, either — despite a report suggesting he’s in Vincent Kompany’s plans.

“I don’t want to rule anything out and want to keep all my options open,” Aséko continued. “I can imagine playing another year in the 2nd Bundesliga. I spoke with [Bayern sporting director] Christoph Freund. He’s proud of my progress and told me to keep pushing.”
