On the girls side, Foothill junior Madison Hart took home MVP honors. Hart is joined by Redding Christian freshman standout Weslynn Skinner and West Valley's Rainessa Matthews on the first team. Other Redding-area standouts that made the list include U-Prep's Layne McFadden, Enterprise's Cat Ahart and Foothill's Jaymes Arnold.
Redding Christian coach Scott Alexander earned the Richard Hull Coach of the Year award after leading the Lions' girls team to a 29-4 record — the best record in program history. The Lions won the NSCIF Division VI championship and made it all the way to the NorCal Division VI championship game.

Northern Section to honor legendary coaches
Written by Kevin Askeland
The All-Northern Section teams for boys and girls basketball, and for the first time boys and girls soccer, continue to honor past influential coaches with the renaming of the annual “coach of the year” awards.
The boys basketball and girls basketball coach of the year awards have been renamed in honor of Westwood coach Phil Bryant and the late Willows coach Richard Hull. The soccer awards are named after former Pleasant Valley boys coach Mike Vought and former Colusa girls soccer coach Rick Colson.
Bryant retired from a 32-year coaching career in Westwood in 2011 after winning a Northern Section record 553 games. He also had over 100 career wins as a girls coach with the Lumberjacks and won Northern Section championships in both sports. He also originated the Northern Section All-Star Basketball Game in 1996 and was the driving force behind the event which has been held for nearly 30 years.
Bryant is still going strong in the state of Nevada, leading South Tahoe to a 17-7 overall record and a league championship. He has won a pair of state championships in Nevada, with Whittel in 2014 and 2016, since leaving the Northern Section. He has a career record of 788-316.
Hull created a girls basketball dynasty in Willows, leading the Honkers to California state championships in 1987 and repeating in 1988. He won three Northern California championships in his career at Willows along with four Northern Section titles and over a dozen league crowns. He retired in the 1990s with over 300 career wins and he was the Cal-Hi Sports state coach of the year in 1988.
Vought coached 21 years at Pleasant Valley and led the Vikings to six Northern Section championships including four in a row. The Vikings also played in the first CIF state tournament under Vought. He led the Vikings to a 98-game unbeaten streak which ranks as the longest unbeaten streak in state history.
Colson was one of the first girls soccer coaches in the Northern Section in early 1990 and he led the Redskins to their first Northern Section championship in 1997. He won five Northern Section championships in his nearly two decades with the Redskins.
The All-Northern Section teams honored late Anderson football coach Bob Reid and former Enterprise volleyball coach Mike Haworth during the fall sports season.
