"Roman Anthony felt discomfort hitting off a tee yesterday and has been shut down from swinging again, at least for a few days, Chad Tracy said," Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com wrote on X.

"Roman Anthony experienced discomfort when hitting off a tee yesterday, Chad Tracy said, and won’t do any more swinging for a few days. Another slow down in his rehab," The Boston Globe's Tim Healey posted on Bluesky.

Friday's update comes three days after Cotillo reported that Anthony was feeling "'much better."

Boston interim manager Chad Tracy also gave an optimistic update regarding the 22-year-old on Thursday.

Anthony was placed on the injured list on May 7 with what was called a right wrist sprain.

He hasn't played since May 4 and has missed the Red Sox's last 20 games.

Anthony was recently joined by star setup man Garrett Whitlock on the IL, the latter of whom is dealing with a knee issue.

Anthony recorded one home run, five RBIs and a .229/.354/.321 slash line across 130 plate appearances covering 30 contests this year before landing on the IL.
