Steelers sign TE Darnell Washington to $42 million extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Darnell Washington to a four-year, $42 million extension, per Jordan Schultz. Washington was entering the final year of his rookie contract and will now remain in Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future.

The Steelers now have two of the top 12 highest-paid tight ends in football, as Washington’s new deal moves him in front of Juwan Johnson and T.J. Hockenson in terms of annual average value.

Washington is coming off a career year, posting career highs in receptions (31) and yards (364) while continuing to be one of the best run blocking tight ends in the league.

Washington joins Nick Herbig as Steelers from the 2023 draft class to get extensions so far this offseason, with Joey Porter Jr and Keeanu Benton likely to follow.
