Seven Cape and Islands teams look to advance in MIAA state tournament

There were seven Cape and Islands teams in playoff action on Thursday.

Two teams advanced to the next round, while the other five will have to wait another year at a chance to win a state title

Boys Tennis 

Div. 3, Round of 8: No. 2 Wayland 4, No. 7 Falmouth 1: The Clippers (18-1) lost their first match of the season. Falmouth beat No. 10 Pentucket Reg. in the Rond of 16, and swept No. 26 Maimonides School in the Round of 32.

Baseball

Div. 4, Round of 16: No. 3 Dennis-Yarmouth 16, No. 19 Blue Hills 9: The Dolphins (17-7) advanced to the Elite Eight for the third straight season.

John Richard homered in the fourth and sixth innings and finished 2-for-3 with one walk, six RBIs and three scored runs. Lincoln Slade went 1-for-2 with one double, two walks, three runs and two RBIs. Matt Garbitt finished 3-for-3 with one walk and three runs. Ben Rondina was 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs and one RBIm while RJ Delcourt went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run.

D-Y will face No. 6v Rockland in the Round of 8 on June 6.

Div. 2, Round of 16: No. 2 Walpole 6, No. 18 Barnstable 0: The Red Hawks (11-11) fell to the defending Div. 2 champs. They upset No. 15 Duxbury in the Round of 32.

Softball 

Div. 4, Round of 16: No. 2 Hampshire Regional 9, No. 15 Sandwich 3: The Blue Knights (18-4) snapped a three-game win streak to end their season. Mia Consalvi, Arabella Finton and Maddie Brown provided the offense, while Sophie Farrington allowed five earned runs over seven innings on the mound.

Sandwich beat No. 18 Abington in the Round of 32.

Girls Lacrosse 

Div. 4, Round of 8: No. 1 Sandwich 20, No. 8 Nantucket 5: The Blue Knights (18-3) are headed back to the Final Four for the second straight year as they beat the Whalers (18-3).

Elisabeth Stutzman scored six times, Abi Reisig added five goals and Lydia Katzenback contributed four goals for Sandwich.

Boys Lacrosse 

Div. 4, Round of 16: No. 7 Pentucket Reg 13, No. 10 Sandwich 7: The Blue Knights (8-12) fell on the road in their second playoff game.

Reece MacKinnon and Nick Pearce each recorded two goals, Will Hughes, Jack Hughes and Eamon Steele finished with one goal and two assists, and Michael Chetwynd dished out two assists.

Sandwich defeated No. 23 Dennis-Yarmouth in the Round of 32.
