The Knicks’ Finals appearance is historic on its own as it is their first since 1999. They haven’t won the title since 1973. Trump elevated it by becoming the first active POTUS to attend an NBA Finals game.
The responses about Trump’s presence not entirely receptive. Some hated the security theater. Even Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox thinks the Madison Square Garden and the rest of the authorities have made it hard for people due to increased security measures.
Popular NBA reporter Shams Charania experienced it first hand.
Charania: “Personally, I was actually stopped by Secret Service just right over there. Trump is not really popular to the American public these days. His latest approval rating is at 35 percent, which Reuters said is the “lowest levels of his political career.” His current administration is criticized for participation in the war in the Middle East, rising prices of goods, and his alleged involvement in the Epstein files.
Adam Silver defends Donald Trump again
The crowd is not receptive of President Trump but NBA Commissioner continues to defend his presence. He reiterated his take a few days ago that the Queens-born official is a legit Knicks fan and is welcome at MSG.
“He’s welcome to be here,” Silver said before tip-off during his appearance in the NBA Today show.
“What makes sports so special, especially when there’s so much that divides people, is it’s something that we have in common. We should look for those things that we have in common and build off that.”
