Miami has long been considered the front-runner.
But as the Bucks’ self-imposed NBA Draft deadline approaches, Boston is becoming harder to ignore.
Marc Stein backs Celtics Giannis interest
Speaking on the All City Podcast, Stein credited Simmons for being early on Boston as a real Giannis landing spot.
“I was going to write the two teams that keep coming up with Giannis are Miami and Boston… Bill Simmons was the first one to talk about Boston as a place that interests Giannis. And based on everything I’ve heard for the last 2-3 weeks, I think that was dead on.”
That matters because Stein is not just another rumor aggregator. He has covered the NBA nationally for decades, worked for ESPN and The New York Times, won the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Curt Gowdy Media Award, and now runs The Stein Line.

Celtics threaten Miami in Giannis trade race
Simmons had already revealed that Boston made an offer for Antetokounmpo, saying the Celtics had put their “hat in the ring” without knowing the exact package.
He has also pushed the idea further, claiming he expects Boston to land Giannis within the next week. That would be a stunning twist if it beats Miami, which has long been framed as the cleaner favorite and a preferred destination for Antetokounmpo.
The Heat links remain serious. Miami has been tied to packages involving Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, and draft capital, while Antetokounmpo’s affinity for Miami has been described as well-chronicled.
Boston’s case is different. Any real Celtics offer would likely require Jaylen Brown, possibly a third team, and a dramatic reshaping around Jayson Tatum. That is why the rumor feels both explosive and complicated.
The clock is what makes it urgent. Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam has said June 23, the start of the NBA Draft, is a natural time to resolve Giannis’ future because Milwaukee needs assets if he plays elsewhere.
Stein’s confirmation does not guarantee a Celtics deal. It does confirm the noise around Boston is real enough to make Miami sweat before the Antetokounmpo saga reaches its deadline.
