Ayo Dosunmu has emerged as one of the most underrated and valuable free agents on the NBA market, offering the type of two-way versatility that every contender seeks. While bigger names often dominate free-agency headlines, Dosunmu’s combination of scoring efficiency, defense, and positional flexibility could make him one of the best signings of the offseason.

The 26-year-old guard split the 2025-26 season between the Chicago Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves after being dealt at the trade deadline.  Dosunmu averaged 14.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting an impressive 51.4 percent from the field and 44.3 percent from three-point range across 67 games. His field-goal percentage ranked among the best for NBA guards, highlighting his efficiency as a scorer.

Before the trade, Dosunmu was enjoying the best season of his career in Chicago, averaging 15.0 points and 3.6 assists while shooting over 51 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc. Those numbers made him one of the league’s most efficient backcourt players and increased his value significantly ahead of free agency.

His impact extends beyond the box score. At 6-foot-4, Dosunmu can guard multiple positions, play either guard spot, and thrive with or without the basketball in his hands. Teams looking for perimeter defense and secondary playmaking will find tremendous value in his skill set.

Timberwolves hold edge

ESPN’s Zach Kram recently identified Dosunmu as a potential long-term starter and key piece for Minnesota moving forward, underscoring how highly league observers view his development. The Timberwolves acquired his Bird rights at the trade deadline, giving them a strong advantage in contract negotiations.

Dosunmu also demonstrated his ability to step up in big moments. He recorded a season-high 29 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds against Miami in February, showcasing the all-around game that has attracted interest around the league.

In a free-agent class lacking elite two-way guards in their prime, Ayo Dosunmu stands out. Whether he remains in Minnesota or signs elsewhere, he has positioned himself as one of the smartest and most impactful free-agent targets available this summer.
