Arch Manning wasn't just a five-star recruit, instead, he was one of the highest-rated prospects ever evaluated. His arrival at Texas was so hyped that he was immediately in the Heisman discussion even before playing a single snap for the Longhorns.
The sports media ecosystem treated Arch like an established NFL first-round pick from the moment he committed to Austin. Archie Manning didn’t like how the media treated his grandson in his developmental year.
“I was kind of disappointed in a lot of people, the whole thing,” Archie said while speaking with Noah Gross of KXAN News during the Manning Passing Academy. “They kind of crowned Arch before he ever played. I just didn’t think that was fair. Yeah, it was a little tough start. He played (for) a great team.
“But I’ve never been more proud of anybody in my life. The way Arch battled through what he had to go through last year, and the way he played the last eight or nine games of the season.”
However, Arch is no longer just a heavily hyped legacy prospect sitting on the sidelines, as he enters his junior year as a proven, elite SEC starting quarterback and a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. He threw for 3,163 yards and tossed 37 total touchdowns against just 7 interceptions last season.
The expectations for Arch and the Longhorns are higher than ever in 2026.
