The 2026-27 season is just around the corner which means that the transfer rumour mill is on the cusp of going into overdrive.
The Reds have already been linked with several players with a move for Victor Munoz already being completed.
But, since Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson have all left for free, some serious change is afoot.
Many players have already been linked but, for Richard Hughes, there's one player who's on the market that could be the answer to one of their main problems.
Liverpool must throw their hat into the ring for Maxence Lacroix
Liverpool's defence is one of their main areas that need upgrading.
The argument between whether improving their attack or defence is being had by fans on a daily basis but, in reality, they need upgrades to both as soon as possible.
The Anfield outfit were miles behind their title rivals this season and, without an abundance of new players entering the mix, it's hard to see how they'll improve their ranking.
With Konate leaving, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are looking likely to be given a chance to prove their worse but, it's a lot of pressure to put onto two youngsters.
This is why Liverpool should try their best to bring in a new centre-back and add Maxence Lacroix to their shortlist of potential targets.
At the moment, Chelsea are on the brink of agreeing a deal with the Frenchman with L'Equipe claiming that Crystal Palace only want €55 million (£47 million) for him.
The centre-back is still just 26 years old and, since he's played for Palace since the 2024-25 season, he already has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt.
When Marc Guehi was still at Selhurst Park, he formed a fairly formidable partnership with the Frenchman and proved that he has what it takes to be a regular starter at a big Premier League club.
And, his lightning quick pace would certainly be an upgrade on Konate who was rather accident-prone.
Why Maxence Lacroix is the best centre-back for Liverpool
As mentioned, Lacroix's pace is unbelievable.
Last season, the top speed that the Frenchman reached was 21.9 mph which, for a centre-back, is rather unheard of.
In addition to his blistering pace, he also rarely makes mistakes which lead to goals as, during the 2025-26 campaign, he only made one [Sofascore].
The fact that he's only 26 years old is also a massive bonus as it means that he still has many years left in the tank but he's still experienced enough to take some pressure off the shoulders of the two wonderkid centre-backs Liverpool will have among their ranks.
Centre-backs of Lacroix's calibre are hard to come by and, if Hughes just lets Chelsea win the race for him without putting up a bit of a battle to sign him, it could end up being one of his biggest mistakes of the window.
Here's hoping that Liverpool's sporting director comes to his senses and makes a bid for the defender.
