Rhian Edmunds' Commonwealth Games campaign could have come to a painful end after the Welsh cyclist crashed heavily in her opening keirin heat on the final day of competition.

Already the winner of team sprint gold and individual sprint bronze in Glasgow, Edmunds came down at speed and remained on the track for several minutes while receiving medical treatment, with her Wales team-mates watching on in concern.

The 25-year-old eventually got to her feet and was helped from the track by the medical staff.

Clearly in discomfort, she paused to wave to her family in the stands before being escorted away for further medical assessment.

There has been no immediate update on the extent of her injuries or whether she will be able to continue in the keirin competition.

Emma Finucane, aiming for an historic fourth Games gold in Glasgow, eased through to the next round by winning her heat.
