CLUB MED FRENCH WORKER RELEASED ON BAIL OVER RAPE ALLEGATION
A French worker, 35-year-old Guy Marchandier, at the new Club Med Tinley Manor in KwaZulu-Natal has been released on bail after being accused of raping a teenage guest at the resort.
The incident reportedly took place over the weekend of 3 to 4 August, when a 17-year-old guest alleged that she had been sexually assaulted.
The matter was immediately reported to the South African Police Service, who arrested the suspect and opened a case of rape.
The accused appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday 4 August.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, the court granted the accused bail of R5 000.
As part of his bail conditions, he must remain in South Africa until the case is finalised and comply with restrictions set by the court. He is expected to return later this month for further proceedings.
Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
