Detroit Lions ink RB, DB in Monday roster moves

The Detroit Lions inked a pair of players on Monday, signing rookie running back Roydell Williams and defensive back Jason Taylor II.

Williams, 24, went undrafted out of Florida State before signing with the Indianapolis Colts. The 5-foot-10, 223-pound back was waived by the Colts five days ago. Meanwhile, Taylor began his career as a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft. Taylor has also spent time in the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs' organizations.

Williams battled the injury bug during each of his final two collegiate seasons. A series of injuries meant that Williams played in just 10 games over his two seasons in Tallahassee, Fla., carrying the football 41 times for 99 yards and two scores with the Seminoles across the 2024 and 2025 college football seasons.

Williams' best collegiate production came in Tuscaloosa as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Williams ran for 560 yards and five scores on 111 carries during the 2023 season with the Tide.

In his college career, Williams carried 275 times for 1,264 rushing yards and 13 scores.

Taylor has appeared in eight career NFL games. All eight came during his rookie campaign in 2023 with the Rams. The 6-foot, 204-pound defensive back played college football at Oklahoma State, registering 175 career tackles, 11 passes defended, eight interceptions and 2.5 sacks.
