The number of names deleted from the draft voter list in Delhi as part of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls exceeded the 2025 winning margins in 68 of the national capital’s 70 Assembly seats, a study by Sabar Institute showed on Friday.
In the draft voter list released on Monday, more than 47 lakh names were deleted. The names account for about 33% of the Union Territory’s electorate.
Of those removed, 43.3 lakh names, or 29.8% of the electorate, were marked as absent or permanently shifted. About 2.8 lakh persons were marked as dead and 1.4 lakh as excluded for having been enrolled at multiple places.
More than 20 lakh deletions in Delhi were in the 30 to 44 age group.
Voters can file claims and objections against their exclusion from the draft list between August 31 and September 30. The appeals will be heard by October 29. The final electoral roll will be published on November 4.
Deletions and winners’ margins
In 24 seats, more votes were cast in the 2025 polls than the number of electors in the draft list published on Monday. In 36 seats, more voters have been removed than all votes polled by the winner.
