The week of Sept. 6-12 was another won full of high school football, cross country and golf action for male sports teams from the Ames area.
It was Week 3 of high school football, with six of the seven area games taking place on Sept. 11. Ballard pulled off an impressive 20-10 win at defending 3A state champion Nevada, Gilbert blanked Boone, 16-0, 2A No. 5 Roland-Story routed West Marshall, 28-3, Ames fell at 5A No. 3 Johnston, 38-0, and Collins-Maxwell steamrolled Meskwaki for its first win of the season 86-12.

Colo-NESCO suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of 8-player No. 4 Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 72-8, on Sept. 10 at Reinbeck.
In cross country, Gilbert hosted the Gilbert Invitational on Sept. 10 at the Iowa State cross country course in Ames.

Bryce Miller, Ballard
Miller played an impressive game at quarterback in leading the Ballard football team to a 20-10 road win over defending 3A state champion Nevada on Sept. 11 at Cub Stadium in Nevada.
Miller completed 17 of 27 passes for 215 yards and one touchdown and no interceptions. He added 14 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Cole Atwood, Collins-Maxwell
Atwood had a big game on defense for the Collins-Maxwell football team during its 86-12 thumping of Meskwaki on Sept. 11 at Maxwell.
The Spartan freshman made seven tackles. He had three stops behind the line, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Logan Bleich, Gilbert
Bleich placed first in the varsity boys race at the Gilbert Invitational cross country meet on Sept. 10 at the ISU cross country course in Ames.
Bleich, the No. 1 individual boys runner in Class 3A according to the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, completed the 5-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 28.93 seconds. He won the race by 33.21 seconds over teammate Jacob Tallman as the Tigers cruised to the boys team championship.
Cooper Triggs, Roland-Story
Triggs did not get in the end zone, but he was a big weapon at receiver for the 2A No. 5 Roland-Story football team during its 28-3 drubbing of West Marshall on Sept. 11 at Story City.
Triggs caught five passes for 109 yards during the victory.
Miles Manatt, Gilbert
Manatt was a huge weapon for the Gilbert football team during the Tigers' 16-0 victory over Boone on Sept. 11 at Boone.
Manatt accounted for 10 points during the game. He was a perfect 3 of 3 on field goals with a long of 28 yards and he added an extra point.
