Gonzaga’s David Stockton Signs Training Camp Deal With Phoenix Suns, Then Waived

Former Gonzaga Bulldogs point guard David Stockton was signed by the Phoenix Suns to a training camp deal and soon after waived on Friday, Sept. 18, RotoWire reports. This move pushes the son of Hall of Famer John Stockton to rejoin the Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns’ G League affiliate, this fall. That organization’s general manager is former Gonzaga student manager Brendan Sabean.

The last time the now 35-year-old Stockton appeared in an NBA contest was with the Utah Jazz during Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets on May 4, 2018.

Stockton is an nine-year NBA G League veteran who has averaged 16.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 29.5 minutes played across 244 career games (185 starts). He last played with the Valley Suns during the 2024-25 season and has been a part of the Indiana Pacers’ Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Memphis Grizzlies’ Memphis Hustle, Los Angeles Lakers’ South Bay Lakers, and the Sacramento Kings’ Reno Bighorns (now the Stockton Kings) dating back to 2014.

Throughout his professional basketball career, Stockton has had international stops in the countries of Croatia, Australia, Germany, and Puerto Rico.
