INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana men's basketball easily put away Butler 96-68 in their first exhibition of the preseason Sunday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Here are three things that stood out.
Markus Burton makes early impression
Burton, who transferred to Indiana this offseason after three years at Notre Dame, thought he needed change to realize the next level of his game. He’s already started to find it with the Hoosiers.
He made each of his first five shots, including three 3-pointers, in the first half of the game for 13 points in 10 minutes of play. He wasn’t afraid to force his way through the paint, taking advantage of the transition game for a couple easy layups.
His minutes became limited, however, because of foul trouble; he sat after picking up two fouls over a one-minute span with seven minutes left in the first half, then sat for another seven minutes after picking up his third just a minute into the second half. He picked up a technical foul with about seven minutes left, and subbed out for the rest of the game.
Aiden Sherrell, Samet Yigitoglu make for dynamic duo in frontcourt
Indiana basketball coach Darian DeVries hoped to fortify his frontcourt this season, and he found two starters from the transfer portal in Aiden Sherrell and Samet Yigitoglu. With Yigitoglu standing at 7 foot 2 and Sherrell at 7-0, they could shape up to be a formidable frontcourt in the Big Ten.
The two found chemistry early and developed it over IU’s game in Canada this summer. Now, they’re seeing it come to fruition in the preseason.
Yigitoglu took on more of the scoring role in the frontcourt, starting 5-of-6 from the field in the first half. Sherrell found success on the boards, collecting seven in the first half alone and forcing a jump ball halfway through the first half.
Trevor Manhertz finds spot in frontcourt rotation
Behind Yigitoglu and Sherrell, the Hoosiers have frontcourt depth that ranges from fifth-year Sam Alexis (who got eligibility to play for the Hoosiers after a court order) and freshman Trevor Manhertz (who reclassified from the Class of 2027 to join the Hoosiers a year early).
And Manhertz, despite being younger than most, is already carving out a spot in the Hoosier rotation. He fit right in with Indiana’s second unit, working with Alexis to find footing in the paint. Manhertz was fantastic on the glass, recording eight rebounds in 20 minutes of play, but focused his shooting beyond the arc. Of his six shots on Sunday night, five of them were at 3-point range, and he finished 2-of-6 from the field.
