Brooklyn Nets coach Jordi Fernández said rookie Mikel Brown Jr. is expected to play Wednesday in their preseason finale against the Miami Heat, according to Brian Lewis of the NY Post.

Brown was limited early in training camp with a sprained left ankle and missed the Nets' first three preseason games, including their matchup against Washington on Monday. He was limited to non-contact drills and other related on-court work.

The sixth overall pick participated fully in practice over the weekend and took part in a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Monday, clearing the way for him to play against the Heat. This will ensure Brown gets some playing time before their regular-season opener on Oct. 21.

Brown played only 21 games last season at Louisville because of a back injury that sidelined him midseason and during the postseason. He still became the Cardinals' highest-drafted player since Felton Spencer was selected sixth overall in 1990.

The 6-foot-5 Brown debuted with the Nets in summer league, averaging 15 points, four assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 34.6% from 3-point range in four games. He finished in double figures in each appearance, including a 20-point performance on July 10.

Brown had the chance to play with some of his new teammates in summer league and believes that experience will help him early on. After arriving with a lot of hype out of college, the team will soon see Brown take the court for the first time.
