Ben Johnson praises Jeffery Simmons
Simmons made an immediate impact in his Bears debut over the Seahawks at Lumen Field. He was acquired from the Titans five days earlier in a trade that sent Chicago’s 2027 and 2028 first-round picks plus a 2027 fourth-round selection in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth-rounder.
USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectThe four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle recorded six tackles (tied for the team lead), one sack, two tackles for loss, one pass deflection, and multiple quarterback pressures while playing 48 snaps. His highlight of the game was sacking Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, his first for the team since arriving. According to the ESPN broadcast, the Bears allowed just 2.3 yards per play with Simmons on the field.
In the post game press conference, Johnson praised the defensive tackle. He said, “He’s fit right in. You can feel his presence out there, whether it’s during the play or even after. You can feel him talking smack, which I think elevates everyone. To come in there and have a share of the lead in tackles and a sack in his first game, his impact was profound.”
Simmons also talked about his performance afterwards.
Jeffery Simmons addresses debut game
Simmons addressed his performance in his first game for the Bears. He said, “If you block me one-on-one, I need to win the one-on-one. If I don’t win a one-on-one, the coaches should be on me. I hold myself to a high standard. It felt great to get my first sack as a Chicago Bear in my first game.”
He added, “If I’m getting a double team, I expect them to win their single block. We don’t need to blitz. I feel like if we can win at the line of scrimmage without the blitzes, that makes the guys’ jobs on the back end that much easier.”
Jeffery Simmons and the Chicago Bears will now prepare for the next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
