Clark, who had been with the network since 2015, had been expected to be a big part of ESPN’s coverage for Super Bowl LXI. ESPN is broadcasting the Super Bowl for the first time in February.
Clark appeared regularly on Get UP,First Take, NFL Live, SportsCenter and other ESPN shows.
A report from Front Office Sports said in September that Clark “could be on thin ice at ESPN” after he got into an on-air and off-air feud with NFL analyst Peter Schrager.
Clark was making more than $2 million per year at ESPN, according to Marchand.
Prior to joining ESPN, Clark spent 13 seasons in the NFL.
He went undrafted out of LSU in 2002 before signing with the New York Giants.
Clark spent two seasons with the Giants and two seasons with Washington before finding a home with the Steelers.
He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2011 with the Steelers and also helped Pittsburgh to a win in Super Bowl XLIII.
Clark spent eight seasons with the Steelers before finishing up his NFL career back in Washington in 2014.
Clark played in 177 NFL games and finished his career with 16 interceptions. He recorded 100 tackles in each of his last four seasons (2011 to 2014) in the NFL.
